Description

Another walk on a hot summer’s day where, again, we were buzzed by flies, particularly around the Low Gate area. Climb up from the starting point is gradual but long. Watch out for the field with alpacas in it on the right hand side after Lowgate House. At Low Gate we walked through the village where the route flattened out for a while. A left turn on the signed footpath (formal reference 524/039) took us away from roads for the first time. Here the route is overgrown, but passable. As we crossed the road, the route becomes somewhat steeper and a little more difficult to navigate (fallen tree). At the top of this footpath (524/008) we turned left on the minor road leading to the racecourse. Looking left we had spectacular views across the valley towards North Northumberland and the Cheviot Hills. The final stretch of the walk took us down Causey Hill, a reasonably steep descent, back to our starting point at the junction of Causey Hill and Allendale Road.
